We were saddened to learn that Milo Raymond Johnson passed away today, 5 August 2009, in Amarillo, Texas.  “He was sick with cancer of the lungs and was in poor health.”  The family writes that the funeral plans are not definite at this time. We’ll update when there is further information.

Milo Johnson was the brother of Josephine “Jo” Johnson Parker. They are the children of Philip Ray and Elsie Rae Braden Johnson and grandchildren of Uncle Dan and Aunt Mary Taylor Johnson. Dan was a brother of Seth Johnson, Sr.. Jo shared these photos when Milo came to visit her and her husband Walt in Commerce, TX back in January of 2006.

Milo Raymond Johnson, 82, of San Jon NM, died August 5, 2009 at Plum Creek Specialty Hospital in Amarillo TX.Milo was born in Elliot IA on March 24, 1927 to Philip Raymond Johnson & Elsie Rae (Braden) Johnson. After high school Milo served in the United States Marine Corps before starting his career as a heavy equipment operator in road construction. During his career he worked in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas and California.Milo was a member of the San Jon United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 77 in Logan NM and the International Union of Operating Engineers Locals 234, 571 and 953.After retirement, Milo built his home in San Jon and enjoyed model railroading and gardening. Milo especially enjoyed growing roses.Milo was proceed in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Carl and Dan, both of Red Oak, IA.Milo is survived by 2 sisters, Effie Belle Bowen of Red Oak, IA and Josephine Parker and husband Walt of Commerce TX, and 1 brother, Win and his wife Terry of Virginia Beach, VA. Daughter Nancy Beug and husband Stan of Golden, CO. Son Michael and wife Sharon of Missouri Valley, IA.And Daughter Linda Gastreich and husband Kent of Chesterfield, MO. 5 Grandchildren, Jennifer Weaver and husband Tom, Shane Gaule and wife Brandy, Shilah Low and husband Nick, Cindy Bertelsen and husband Doug and Amanda Gastreich. 5 Great Grandchildren, Brandon Bertelsen, Lauren Bertelsen, Brittany Meehan (Gaule), Abigail Gaule and Hagen Low.A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in San Jon, NM on Saturday August 15th, 2009 at 2:00 PM MDT.The family has suggested memorials to:Milo Johnson Scholarship FundSan Jon High SchoolPO Box 5San Jon NM 88434
