A Message from Saiko Shihan Y. Oyama

The following is an announcement issued on March 29, 2011 by Saiko Shihan Y. Oyama, Founder and Director of the World Oyama Karate Organization. For more information, visit the official website of the World Oyama Karate Organization at: www.worldoyama.com.

The earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th was the biggest natural disaster of this century for the Japanese people.  Nobody could have predicted the tremendous impact of the aftermath on the country.  Every day, I see the pain and sadness the Japanese people must endure.  But I see them endure it with a patience and stoicism that is inspirational.  They work together and support each other in a way that has impressed the world.  Witnessing their strength gives us courage to face the events of our own lives.

I feel that we need to do something to help the people of Japan.  On April 30th, we will hold our 35th Annual American Cup Knockdown Tournament here in Birmingham.  The Black Belt Committee has decided to donate proceeds from this tournament to the American Red Cross for Japan relief efforts.  I hope that you will all support us in our efforts to raise money for the people of Japan.

OSU!
