On Saturday, 12 September 2009, Vaunita Lynn (“Nita”) Cohen and Ravi Singh Parihar were married in the bride’s hometown of Americus, GA. It was a lovely outdoor wedding at the Lee Council House, a beautiful old Victorian home in historic Americus. Among the flower girls and ring bearers were Nita’s nieces and nephews - Laura Kathryn, Gwendolyn Lynn, and Jeanne Marie Cohen [daughters of David and Michelle (“Shelley”) Cohen] and Spencer Cohen and Samantha Cohen (son and daughter of Arthur and Jenny Cohen). David and Arthur are brothers of the bride. Also, Nita’s Uncle Pete (Orson L. “Pete” Johnson) was one of the officiants of the wedding....

This year at the Johnson Family Reunion, family members gave most generously to the Seth Johnson Elementary School Library - a total of $1700! On 9 September 2009, Orson L. “Pete” Johnson, son of David Glenn and Vaunita Oswald Johnson (Uncle Dave and Aunt Vaunita) visited the school at 4550 Narrow Lane Road in Montgomery. He presented the family’s library donation to Principal Jacqueline Campbell and Library Media Specialist Joyce Brown. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Brown send a very heartfelt thank you to all family members who contributed. The money will be used to purchase much needed books for the library.
While making the presentation, Pete took the opportunity to tell students in the library about Seth and Neva Kate Carmichael Johnson and about their daughter Neva Carmichael Johnson Bassett (Aunt Neva) who gave the land for the school in honor of her father. The picture at right is of Pete with the children and school officials at the presentation.
Here are more pictures.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed to the Seth Johnson Elementary School Library. The gifts of reading and literacy are precious.

It was a beautiful birthday celebration for a beautiful lady - so very fitting. And it was such a grand occasion that it took more than one day to celebrate it! Neva Miriam Scruggs Ennis, our Cousin "Scrubbie", was born 14 August 1907, in Gainesville, Florida to Brick Pomeroy and Sarah Fay Carmichael Scruggs.
Cousin Scrubbie's mother, Sarah Fay Carmichael, was born in Newnan, GA on 14 December 1882, to William Spencer and Manora Alzada Summers Carmichael. Sarah Fay had an older sister in the house when she was born. Her "big" sister was approximately one year old at the time. Her name was Neva Kate Carmichael - our own Grandmother Johnson who would be the future wife of Seth Johnson....See more photos.
